Peru adventure yoga retreat in April 2022 visiting Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Amazon River.
A 7 night yoga retreat in the Andes and the Amazon. We will collect you at Cusco airport, before taking you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Tipon, and Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the world. Then we visit the Inca capital of Cusco itself, nestled in the Andes, before flying north to Iquitos and the Amazon. On our journey we will see pink dolphins, monkeys, local tribes and the beautiful Amazon river close to the Pacaya Samiria national park. This will all be with professional guides, yoga teachers and wonderful hotels and lodges.
Arrival into Peru, with each of us making our way to meet in Cusco. As we adjust to the altitude we will have a wellness focussed yoga class and recover from the flight, stretching our limbs before we have a light dinner and an evening to get to know each other. Dinner.
Upon waking we will meet for a yoga class to set us up for our day. Again breakfast is included, before we board our vehicle and go to the archaeological site of Tipon with its wonderful intact water canal. It’s one of the most peaceful places in the area, and it is easy to find a quiet spot to meditate. We will return to the Sacred Valley via a local market, allowing you to appreciate the colour of the local culture and people. Breakfast, Lunch in the valley.
We have an early rise today, so there will be no early morning yoga. We will take the train to the enigmatic citadel of Machu Picchu, where with our private guide we will learn the history and hear some of the theories related to the site. Afterwards we have a short amount of time to soak up the atmosphere on our own before taking the train to Cusco. Breakfast, Packed Lunch
Today we begin with morning yoga overlooking the city before breakfast. We have a beautiful walk today: our car will take us to Tambomachay, and from there we will walk downhill past other archaeological sites to Saqsayhuaman and then Cusco's main square. Breakfast, Dinner
Early in the morning we will be taken to Cusco airport for the short flight to Iquitos in the middle of the Peruvian Amazon. We then drive to the port of Nauta and board the boat to the lodge, travelling along the Maranon River to where it sits just back from the river. On the way we will visit a local forest project to see what wildlife we can spot and soak up the jungle sounds and smells. Lunch is served onboard.
Arriving at our home for the next few days we will meet a member of the Kukuma tribe, who will welcome us to the lodge in their local language. The Kukuma assist in the running of the lodge.
Afterwards we have a short yoga session, and dinner is served at the lodge. We will finish the evening with our guide will talk to us about the myths and legends of the rainforest. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Yoga in the morning before breakfast to set us up for the day. In the new climate you'll find your body moves wonderfully in the heat.
After breakfast we have the day to explore, either on foot or by boat. We have to be flexible here as our excursions are dependant on the weather. While at the lodge we will spend time in the Pacaya Samiria national park, Peru’s largest national park and one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. We will visit local towns and learn about local customs watching pink dolphins, iguanas, monkeys and more while we are out.
In the afternoon before dinner we will have a short yoga session. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Our day starts with a mornings session which weather dependant might be in the gardens. If not, we have a lovely space indoors. We then continue our exploration of the jungle with our guide. More yoga is included in the afternoon at the Pacaya Samiria Amazon lodge.
After breakfast we return to the airport and fly to Lima for onward travel. Do ask us about extending your vacation: perhaps you would like to go to the beach in Peru, or visit another area of the country. Breakfast.
Our main accommodation is the Pacaya Samiria Amazon lodge, with small bungalows, hammocks and beautiful gardens to enjoy.
Our accommodation is the Mandala yoga retreat in the Sacred Valley. The lodge has a beautiful yoga space with views of the mountains and the colourful gardens. There are hammocks to while away some time watching the humming birds.
