Machu Picchu and the Lares Valley 2021

Luxury yoga and wellness retreat in Peru travelling and trekking round Cusco the Sacred Valley, Lares and Machu Picchu .


A 7 night yoga retreat in the Andes that will collect you at Cusco airport before taking you into Cusco historical centre and the beginning of our wellness retreat.  We will practice different styles of yoga throughout the week and participate in Andean esoteric ceremonies as well as hike in some of the most beautiful areas in Peru. All this before arriving to the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. This will all be will be with professional guides, yoga teachers and wonderful hotels and lodges.

Day 1 

Arrival into Peru, you need to make your way to Cusco. Today, as we adjust to the altitude, we will have a healing yoga class, recovering from the flight and stretching the limbs and also an introductory workshop "The Pillars of Wellness" , before we have  dinner at Pachapapa in San Blas and an evening to get to know each other.  Dinner.

Day 2

7:00am – 7:20am Early morning Sun Salutations for an energetic start to the day.
7:30am – 8:30am Breakfast at the hotel. 
8:45am – 12:30pm Round-trip hike to the Temple of the Moon for a K’intu (Coca leaf) initiation ceremony, followed by a gentle guided meditation. Focus: Establishing a merging of intentions and personal energy within the sacred land that surrounds us.
1:30pm – 3:00pm Lunch in Cusco at Green’s Organic.
3:30pm – 6:30pm Superfood workshop at hotel: ‘Introduction to Andean Superfoods and the Magic of Peruvian Food Culture’ —followed by a visit to the San Pedro Market to learn about the top 10 Andean superfoods, their properties, and different ways to prepare them in order to activate their nutrients.
7:00pm Trip briefing at hotel.
7:30pm Dinner at Mutu.

Overnight: El Retablo – Cusco

Day 3 

6:00am Everyday Essentials Yoga: Restoration practice focused on stretching wrists, shoulders, hips, and back to loosen up our bodies and minds.
07:00am Breakfast at the hotel.
7:30am Depart for the Sacred Valley.
8:30am – 10:00am Visit to the town of Pisac market and botanical gardens.
11:00am – 12:00pm Visit to the village of Viacha—participate in traditional Andean farming practices alongside members of the local community.
12:15pm – 1:20pm Pachamanca lunch in Viacha. This is a traditional Andean lunch. 
1:30pm – 4:00pm Hike to Pisac archaeological site followed by a guided tour.
4:00pm Scenic drive to Lamay Lodge.
6:00pm – 7:00pm Evening restorative yoga practice. Focus: Re-centering ourselves by integrating the multiple energies received during our full-day journey.
7:30pm Dinner and daily trip briefing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4

7:00am – 8:00am Early morning Ashtanga practice: energizing and dynamic.
8:00am – 8:30am Breakfast at lodge.
9:00am – 10:00am Wellness workshop at the lodge: 'Ayurveda for Life' — Ayurveda is known as the life science that is complementary to yoga. During this workshop we will explore our doshas (body and mind constitutions) and examine modifications to lead us towards a more well-rounded lifestyle.
10:15am Depart for the Lares Valley.

Choice of afternoon activities:

Activity A:
12:15pm – 3:30pm Excursion to meet the expert textile weavers of the Choquecancha community, including an introduction to Andean natural textile dyes and coca leaf reading.

Activity B:
1:00pm – 4:00pm Hike from Cuncani to Huacahuasi Lodge. (approximately 1 hour)
6:00pm – 7:00pm Wellness workshop at lodge: 'Pranayama Breathing'—Pranayama technique workshop to guide our bodies and minds into a deep state of relaxation.
7:30pm Dinner and daily trip briefing.

Overnight: Huacahuasi Lodge

Day 5

6:45am – 8:00am Mysore Ashtanga Yoga Method: Build your own practice—Mysore offers the opportunity for a personalized posture sequence adapted to each individual student.
8:00am – 8:30am Breakfast at hotel.
8:45am – 10:00am Scenic drive to Marcacocha.
10:15am – 11:15 Pachamama ceremony at the Marcacocha archaeological site
11:30am -  Depart for Pumamarka by car. 
12:15pm – 1:30pm Visit to the Pumamarka archaeological site and picnic lunch.
2:00pm – 4:00pm Hike from Pumamarka to Ollantaytambo, this is mostly a soft downhill. 
4:30pm Arrival at the lodge in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. 
5:00pm – 6:30pm Philosophy Workshop: ''The Heart of Yoga'—discussion about the eight limbs of  yoga, including ethical principles like yamas and niyamas.
7:30pm Dinner and daily trip briefing.

Day 6

7:00am – 8:15am Mysore Ashtanga Yoga Method: Continuing our individual posture sequence exploration.
8:00am – 8:30am Breakfast at our hotel.
9:30am – 10:30am Visit to the Ollantaytambo archaeological site.
11:30am Scenic train ride to Machu Picchu town including lunch on board. 
2:00pm – 4:30pm Guided tour of Machu Picchu. We will spend time exploring the citadel with our professional guide. We will learn about some of the theories surrounding Machu Picchu. 
5:00pm Check-in at hotel.
7:30pm Dinner at hotel and daily trip briefing.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 7

6:30am – 7:30am Optional early morning stroll through the lush orchid gardens and tea plantation at hotel.
7:00am – 7:45am Breakfast at hotel.
9:00am – 11:30am Hike to Mandor natural reserve where we will participate in an energizing Sun Salutations variations practice. At the end of the session, we will revisit the Circle of Life to examine the attainment of our wellness experience intentions.
1:00pm - 2:00pm Lunch at hotel.
2:55pm Scenic train ride from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo..
5:00pm Private transport from Ollantaytambo back to Cusco (approximately 2 hours).
8:00pm Farewell dinner.

Day 8 (27th March)

We say our goodbyes and are taken back to the airport, or you can add on a visit to Lake Titicaca, the Amazon or somewhere else in South America. Breakfast.

The Sacred Valley and Lares Valley 

We will spend time in different lodges in the Sacred Valley and the Lares Valley. All lodges are stunningly situated with excellent comfortable accommodations. 


In Cusco, we will spend time in the El Retablo hotel in the historical centre of the town. Each room has been painted and decorated by a local artist. 

All prices are based on two sharing. Single supplements are also available.

How much yoga will we do?

In general we will have 2 classes a day, one in the morning of 90 minutes and one in the afternoon of 60 to 90 minutes that may include meditation also. You do not need to take both classes every day, it is up to you.

Do I need to be a yoga expert?

These yoga retreats are for any standard of yogi including absolute beginners. We also cater for expert yogis also. We give the instruction for group 1 and group 2 and we will decide what group you are in the first day although you can swap between the 2 if you like. In addition if you would like to travel with a non yogi ask about special pricing.

Are all meals vegetarian/vegan?

They are not, we cater for all dietary requirements and some yoga centres may be 100% vegetarian but when we have lunch or dinner out you can eat what you like. Do let us know any preferences.

Do you provide visas?

We do not provide visas but we can help you if you do need a visa.

Do you include international air tickets?

We do not include these as people come from all over the world, we can help you find the best routing as we have many years experience in this field.

Can I have a single room?

You can have a guaranteed single room by paying the single supplement.

Can I share a room?

If you would prefer not to pay the single supplement you can share a room with a person of the same sex. We will pair you with a room partner.

What should I bring?

Ask us about packing lists for each specific destination but everyone should bring a yoga mat. We will supply blocks, straps and blankets.
