Changes afoot

Travel continues to be at the forefront, Iona (Scotland), Thailand and Peru. We look forward to visiting these places again on yoga retreats.

Things are changing very quickly for us here at Blu Kite Yoga. We have been working and living at the hotel for over 3 months now, which means we are over half way through our time here. We have also managed to get someone in to help us: we would like to welcome Nicholas Bell to the company. He has the job of running and planning all our social media and marketing, and we’re super excited to see what he can put together.

Arduaine Gardens

This additional pair of hands comes at a very exciting time, as places are slowly starting to open up and international travel is looking possible again. We are focusing on our Thailand wellness retreat in March 2022 and our Peru luxury retreat in April 2022. It’s been a long wait but getting back out to these places which are so close to our hearts will be worth it. Both countries are wonderful, offering peace, tranquillity, great food, fascinating history, hiking, wonderful markets, colour, sound and so much more.

Our Thailand wellness and yoga retreat covers some ground over 12 days. We start in bustling Bangkok visiting some of the city’s most famous temples as well as the famous Grand Palace. Next we are on to the stunning area of Chiang Mai with a visit to the White Temple and the many food stalls and vendors of the vibrant night market. We also travel to the little visited area around Phattalung, enjoying waterfalls, temples, and the beautiful Lotus Lake at Thale Noi. The lake is home to water buffalo and many species of bird, and from its banks you can watch local fishermen use their traditional Thai fishing techniques. All this before stopping at a 5 star resort on Koh Lanta for a few days of rest, relaxation, and a bit of snorkelling.

Peru Yoga Retreat

In Peru over the space of 7 days we will visit the town of Cusco and learn about the history of the area, before heading for 6 nights to the Willka T’ika Luxury Retreat centre located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.  The retreat includes a visit to a local school, hikes, and trips to different sites such as Pisac and Ollantaytambo, before a day visit to one of the modern wonders of the world: the Inca citadel, Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu

Through all of these explorations of Peruvian culture we will continue to encompass yoga, meditation and learning . It’s also worth remembering that Peru has some fantastic beaches. If you fancy a few days at the end of your trip to enjoy them, just let us know and we can assist you.

Our Scottish Travels

Although we are not travelling internationally at the moment we continue to travel around the local area. Last week we spent a few days in Stirling. There we enjoyed the hottest day in July, shaded by the stone walls of Stirling Castle. Afterward we wandered down the hill and had a lovely lunch in what had once been a brothel, before a guided tour at the site of Bannockburn from the battle in 1314. It's really lovely to go to places in Scotland that we don’t know, and travel was easy, with access from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. On the way home we had gluten free fish and chips in The Real Food Café in Tyndrum - highly recommended.

We continue to visit the beautiful Arduaine gardens, which at this time of year are beautifully green and lush, and the plants all look magnificent. The care and thought that went into the original design is spectacular and the gardens are very well maintained. While there at this time of year we have seen frogs, rabbits, butterflies, dragonflies and many varieties of bird. I also had the delight of seeing an otter crossing the road when I was in the car.

Wild Swimming and Iona

I am still swimming. The water is getting warmer, and I am managing to properly swim now, around 10 lengths of the bay (although I have no idea how big it is). I always marvel at the kelp, fish and scuttling crabs while my head is under the water.

Iona Abbey

I have been trying to get to Iona for some time, and finally settled for a day trip last week. There is very little accommodation and ferries are quite booked up at the moment, but our visit was amazing. You can see some lovely pictures of the abbey on our social media pages. I have always enjoyed my autumn/winter travels in Scotland. It's lovely to take advantage of being in this area and seeing things we haven’t seen before. We also need to organise a trip to the Corryvreckan whirlpool, the 3rd largest in the world. People have amazing sea eagle sightings on this tour, and I believe you can even swim across it.

As always you can get a hold of us here. This is where you can ask us questions about yoga classes, or anything else really, and you can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and follow our daily adventures.

Our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are here. Feel free to come say hello, we love hearing from you.
